Who Am I?

My name is Duke Gustafson, and my journey with music started before I even understood its impact. Born on October 28, 2008, I took my first steps into music at age four through Kindermusik. By seven, I began formal piano lessons with the teacher who still guides me today.

At first, music felt like a chore. My mother encouraged me to practice, but my heart wasn’t fully in it. Everything changed at 12 years old—piano became an escape, a way to express what words couldn’t. Music transformed into something deeply personal and rewarding.

My desire to teach comes from the appreciation I have for my own teacher. Her dedication helped shape me, and I want to do the same for others. Whether through lessons, performances, or sharing my experiences, I want to help others find joy in music just as I have.

My Teaching Approach

I use the Piano Adventures curriculum by N. Faber, a structured and engaging method designed to help students progress effectively.
Each level includes four books:

Lesson Book

Introduces new concepts and pieces in a clear, step-by-step format.

Technique Book

Focuses on building finger strength, coordination, and agility.

Theory Book

Reinforces music theory concepts to deepen understanding.

Performance Book

Provides additional pieces to build confidence and artistry.

This method ensures that students develop a well-rounded musical foundation while making learning enjoyable and rewarding.
